Final Dash For Now

GR5

Day 34 - Maximised Morning

The time gained in rapidly packing up the tent and setting off early is slightly lost in taking a necessary detour. With suburban roads prevailing at first, a likeside path eventually leads down rocky beaches and narrow paths. With the midday sun beaming down, the final part of the intended dash of 225km is completed in four-and-a-half days. The Alpine traverse that awaits on the final leg of the GR5 promises to be a challenge unlike any other leg along the way thus far. Excited by the prospect and though eager to carry on immediately, it makes sense to postpone the route to Nice until the snow is clear, huts along the way are open and perhaps also other hikers undertake the same journey. May the hike in July be as grand as it promises to be.
